D-Backs Edge Brewers 2-1, Vogt To Have Surgury

The Milwaukee Brewers wasted a seven-inning, two-hit performance by starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin in a 2-1 loss at Arizona.  The Diamondbacks ended a six-game losing streak with the victory when Daniel Descalso singled in a run in the bottom of the eighth.  Travis Shaw knocked in Milwaukee’s only run with a double in the fourth.  Trevor Williams took the loss, although it was Boone Logan who gave up the game-winning hit.  Right-hander Brandon Woodruff starts this afternoon’s series finale. Our coverage on 940 WFAW starts at 2:05.

Brewers catcher Stephen Vogt will have surgery on his shoulder later this week.  Vogt sought a second opinion Tuesday and the need for the procedure was confirmed.  An M-R-I of his shoulder in Milwaukee had revealed damage to the labrum, rotator cuff, and capsule.  That indicates an extensive injury which will be season-ending but could also threaten to end the 33-year-old’s career.  He suffered a strained shoulder during spring training and was rehabbing with Class Double-A Biloxi when he did the damage while making a throw to third base.
