A Milwaukee mother has avoided prison as part of a plea deal after she smothered her baby last winter. Twenty-nine-year-old Wanda Pena admits she was high on crack cocaine and marijuana when she fell asleep and rolled on top of the three-month-old child. Three years ago, Pena’s son was killed when a television accidentally fell on him. This time, Pena told investigators she was sleeping on a couch with the baby when she woke up to find it unresponsive. She was sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty to recklessly endangering safety.
