Amazon and Google are placing themselves into every aspect of our lives that they can and now they are going to be able to tell when you even go to bed. For example, when you connect a light fixture to your Alexa, Amazon wants to know every time the light is turned on or off, even if you didn’t ask Alexa to turn it on. A researcher said, “You can learn the behaviors of a household based on their patterns. One of the most foundational things is occupancy. There’s a lot they could do with that.” Amazon and Google say that the reason they collect the data is to make it easier for people to manage their home electronics and with the automatic status updates they are able to reduce the time it takes to process voice commands and update the apps used to control the devices.
