A stiff back sidelined Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, ending plans for the future Hall of Famer to play the first quarter in Baltimore Thursday night. The Ravens won their 15th straight preseason game 26-13.
Coach Matt LaFleur says Rodgers not playing was a game-day decision. Rodgers has played 165 regular-season games since breaking into the league in 2005, so there was really no pressing need to get him into a game three weeks before the Sept. 5 opener against Chicago.
Backup quarterback Tim Boyle hit rookie Darrius Shepherd with a third-period T-D pass for Green Bay’s only touchdown.
The Packers play the Oakland Raiders next Thursday in a preseason game to be played in Winnipeg.
