Jace Peterson grounded out to shortstop in the ninth inning, wrapping up a no-hitter for Chicago Cubs right-hander Alec Mills, as the Cubs shut out the Brewers 12-0.
It was just the 15th major league start for Mills, who threw 114 pitches while picking up his fifth victory
Brewers outfielder Avisail Garcia came to closest to breaking up the no-hitter, with a line drive to right field in the first inning and nearly beating out an infield hit in the sixth. It was the first no-hitter thrown against the Brewers since Justin Verlander accomplished the feat 13 years ago.
The Brewers trail the Cubs by six games in the NL Central. They trail St. Louis by two games.
The Cards come to town for a five-game series, starting with a doubleheader today. Josh Lindblom and Corbin Burnes will be the starting pitchers for the Crew.
We’ll have Brewers-Cardinals action on 940 WFAW. Our doubleheader coverage begins at 3:35 PM.
